Happy Holidays From GeoBlue®
Last year we were dreaming of just being together. Now, when the time is right, we can let our dreams take us to wherever we want to go.
This year’s holiday message is inspired by the youngest members of our GeoBlue family – the children and loved ones of our own GeoBlue employees. They remind us that the world is meant to be explored, and that dreaming of far-off lands can only be replaced by experiencing their brilliance first-hand.
We are grateful for our employees who keep our members safe and comforted as they cross borders to bring their dreams to life. And we are grateful for you, our partners. We look forward to a world of possibilities in 2022 and beyond.
Supporting International Students With Access to Care in the U.S.
While our services have traditionally focused on higher education (colleges and universities), the health needs of all international students are universal, especially when it comes to navigating the complexities of the U.S. healthcare system and accessing mental health services.
We recently had the opportunity to speak about the healthcare and emotional needs of international K-12 students. This population is equally susceptible to anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges. Being aware of the signs of distress and types of support that are available to assist international students who may be dealing with physical and emotional health issues are important to students’ health and wellbeing. Here are some highlights:
|
Signs of emotional distress It may be difficult for schools and students to pick up on early signs of depression and anxiety.
- Students may be angry, irritable or withdrawn and they may see external factors as the root of their moodiness rather than internal turmoil and depression
- Adolescents who are struggling with depression are at higher risk of seeking experiences that elevate their mood including recreational drugs, promiscuity and thrill-seeking activities
- Weight fluctuations, sleep disturbances and impaired concentration may also be signs of depression

Telemedicine is a game changer The pandemic has increased the availability of telemedicine services. And it’s here to stay!
- For mental health, telemedicine has significantly increased access to-and ease of-obtaining therapy
- Recent academic articles have noted an increase in engagement by patients (such as fewer missed appointments) and acceptance of the platform by both patient and therapist
- For international students, a virtual therapist who speaks the student's native language is a significant advantage. But, of course, having a range of options is essential
|
|
These resources from GeoBlue are included with all scholastic products. They provide a direct link for international students to access remote care 24/7/365.
- Global Wellness Assist is an international assistance program for students who are studying internationally and provides access to free, confidential services with licensed therapists, including 70 language options by native speakers
- Global TeleMDTM is a convenient telemedicine service and an alternative to seeking in-person care. It offers a global network of doctors who can provide advice and prescriptions for minor medical problems with multiple language options available
